Are you TRUSTING Him?? // {1 Peter 5.7}

{1 Peter 5.7} "Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you."

Are you anxious? Are you worried about something today? Give it to Jesus.

This verse tells us that we can trust Christ with our cares and concerns because He cares for us.

I'm also reminded of Philippians 4.6:
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
When we worry and fret, we basically tell Jesus that we don't trust Him. We become self-focused instead of focusing on Christ.

He is able and wants to take care of all of our needs and desires. He is sovereign and will work all things according to His glorious plan.

Let's cast our cares at His feet today. Let's trust Him with the details of our lives.

What will you trust Him with today?

Stars Collide, by Janice Thompson

Stars Collide: A Novel (Backstage Pass){From the Publisher}:
Her Future's So Bright, She's Gotta Wear Shades

Kat Jennings and Scott Murphy don't just play two people who are secretly in love on a television sitcom - they are actually head over heels for each other in real life. When the lines between reality and TV land blur, they hope they can keep their relationship under wraps. But when Kat's grandmothers, an eccentric star from Hollywood's golden age, mistakes their on-screen wedding proposal for the real deal, things begin to spiral out of control. Will their secret be front-page news in the tabloids? And can their budding romance survive the onslaught of paparazzi, wedding preparations, and misinformed family members?

From the soundstage to a Beverly Hills mansion to the gleaming Pacific Ocean, Stars Collide takes you on a roller-coaster tour of Hollywood, packing both comedic punch and tender emotion.

{My Thoughts}:
This was a laugh-out-loud, fun-to-read book. I absolutely love Janice Thompson's books! She writes in such an easy-to-read style that carries me straight to the end. The punch lines are funny, and the action is non-stop. Stars Collide had me from page one, and I enjoyed every minute of it!

I give this book five out of five stars!

{1 Peter 4.16}

{1 Peter 4.16} "But if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name."

Let's spend time today praying for those who will face suffering today because of their faith in Christ.

{1 Peter 3.15} // We have HOPE!!

{1 Peter 3.15} "But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence..."

We have hope! In a world filled with bad news and sin, we have hope!

Last night, I had both kids in my recliner with me as we were watching the CBS Evening News. Normally, I don't really notice the gruesomeness of the news reports, but the reports on what is happening in Egypt were quite graphic. Jenny was paying more attention than normal and was asking questions about what was happening.

How do you explain political unrest turned violent to a four year old? How do you explain people walking around with blood on their faces? Is this the world in which our kids will grow up? One with continued violence and fighting?

It reminded me of a friend on Twitter earlier this week. She was catching up on the news, and it was all bad news. She asked if there was any good news...

I sent her this incredible news:
"In this world, we will have troubles. But Christ has overcome the world!"
We have hope! This world is not our home - we are merely passing through. Our hope is for eternity in the presence of God!

{1 Peter 2.24}

{1 Peter 2.24} "And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed."

Christ died for our sins. It is because of His incredible sacrifice that we can have a relationship with God.

He died, was buried, and He rose again three days later. He conquered sin and death, providing a means of salvation for all men.

The gospel requires a response. What will your response be?

3 in 30 - January Recap and February Goals

I apologize for the number of posts today. I will not normally post this often, but being a part of several linkups that all happened today caused an overload of posts. I hope you will continue to subscribe via email and/or in an RSS reader. I promise not to post this much on a regular basis!

I have absolutely LOVED being a part of the community surrounding the 3in30 Challenge this month. The other participants have literally blessed me to tears {and I don't tear up easily} with their encouragement of one another and their excitement for the challenge. What a blessing to be a part of such an incredible challenge and community!!

I had BIG plans for January. I thought I had developed three SMART goals that were totally do-able, but I found out less than a week into the challenge that I was over my head. While the goals might have been do-able, I forgot to factor in L.I.F.E.

So, a week into the challenge, I revamped one of my goals. And you know what? It was OK! I realized that the challenge wasn't about completing my goals in perfection but rather seeing progress over the course of the month. And, I can say that though I hit a few bumps along the way, my goals have become reality for me!

So what did I make reality this last month?
  • I got into the Word on a (almost) daily basis, not only reading it, but reflecting on it and sharing it on my blog. Having the accountability of posting about it daily was great for me.
  • I ate at least one serving of both fruit and veggies most every day. I actually realized that I was eating more of these than I thought, which made me very happy!
  • I got quite a bit of exercise throughout the month. Though not my originally stated goal of 20 mins of cardio five days a week, I was intentional about making sure I did some form of exercise at least three times a week. {Shoveling the snow was one of the best forms of exercise I found during the month!}
And now, it's time to look forward to February. A new set of goals to make reality!!
  1. After reading Amy Lynn Andrew's ebook, Tell Your Time, I want to focus on making my time work for me. I want to get up each morning and be done with breakfast, Jenny's school, and ready to "work" by 10am
  2. I also want to set "office hours" for my social media usage, only allowing myself to be on Twitter and Facebook during set times each day. I waste too much time checking them throughout the day - I want to be more focused on whatever task I am working on rather than working on so many things at once.
  3. I want to take more pictures and share more about my daily life with you all. Inspired by Pixosphere's sponsorship of the 3 in 30 Challenge during the month of February, I want to turn my Top Ten Tuesday posts into a picture collage of the Top 10 Photos of My Week.
Are you joining the 3 in 30 Challenge this month? Read more about the 3 in 30 Challenge, "like" the Facebook page, follow them on Twitter, and join the conversation on Twitter!

I'm SNOWED IN during BLISSDOM... 2011 Blizzard Bloghop

Blizzard Bloghop 2010 hosted by Household 6 Diva

Welcome to AP Freewriting - a place of encouragement for women from the Word of God. My goal through this blog is to encourage and challenge you as you grow in your walk with the Lord.

We are all busy women, and we need to find some calm in the midst of the chaos of our lives. At AP Freewriting, I share from my own walk with the Lord through the chaos of my life, giving you a glimpse of the calm that can be found when you keep your focus on Him.

A little bit about me...
  • Faith:
    • I grew up in a Christian home.
    • I was saved at the age of 3, but really started to walk with the Lord around the age of 8 when I rededicated my life to Christ.
    • I'm currently seeking to grow daily in my walk with the Lord. Some days/weeks are better than others, but He is faithful to bring me ever closer to the image of His Son.

{1 Peter 1.13}

{1 Peter 1.13} Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Prepare your minds... what does this look like? How do we prepare our minds

Romans 12.2 comes to mind:
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

What about Ephesians 6.13-18?
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints...
Or 1 Peter 3.15?
But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.
Are you preparing your mind? What steps are you taking daily to prepare yourself for the battle we are in? What answers do you have on the tip of your tongue to give to anyone who asks you about the hope you have? Are you ready?

{James 5.8}

{James 5.8} You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.

Be patient.

How many times has that phrase come out of my mouth in the last two days? Too many to count!

Jenny has reached the phase where she thinks that life should revolve around her, and she wants what she wants when she wants it, even if it means disobeying a direct order. So, we've been working on patience.

How funny, though, that I've been so focused on teaching her patience, and yet I seem to have so little myself. How easily I lose my temper and how often I find myself upset if things don't happen how I want and when I want.

Reading this verse in James this morning reminded me that I, too, must learn to be patient. Patiently waiting on the Lord, trusting that His timing and His ways are the best.

Trust in the Lord - Book Crop Sign

Be strengthened, my heart. Trust that God's timing and His ways are the best. Don't make a mess out of life with your impatient ways. Find strength in the Word as you wait on the Lord!

Never Been Kissed, by Melody Carlson

I enjoy reading teen fiction occasionally, and I had a bit of "extra" time earlier this month (before I jumped back into school), so I thought I'd read the latest from Melody Carlson, Never Been Kissed.

Never Been Kissed: A Novel{From the Publisher}:
New School = New Chance for that First Kiss

Summer is ending, and for once that doesn't seem like such a bad thing to Elise. She's hoping that starting fresh at a new high school will turn her first kiss prospects around. New guys, new friends, and a new lease on life.

What she wasn't counting on was all the new pressure - to hang with the right crowd, wear the right clothes, and date the right guy. Just when it seems she's on top of the world, everything comes crashing down. Could one bad choice derail her future?

{My Thoughts}:
I have mixed feelings about this book. It was well written and I enjoyed following the characters through the story, but the subject matter seemed a bit too PG/PG-13 for a junior high/high school girl to be reading. At one point, a comparison is made in the book to a character on a popular TV show that I watch (rated TV-14), but that I would never have been allowed to (or wanted to) watch in high school, let alone in junior high. However, this is the type of book (market-wise) that I would have been reading in junior high.

While I wasn't offend by the material, I'm not sure it is appropriate for teen-age girls to be reading. They get enough garbage thrown at them in secular novels - Christian novels should have a higher standard (in my opinion).

Because of the inappropriate material for this age group, I give this book 2 out of 5 stars.

Thanks to Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, for providing a copy of this book for review.

{James 4.17}

{James 4.17} "Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin."

Ah, my least favorite verse in the Bible.

I don't know about you, but when I do something I shouldn't, it's a whole lot easier to admit I messed up than when I don't do something I should. For me, the sins of commission are easier to acknowledge than the sins of omission.

This verse, though, reminds me that neglecting to do what I know to be right is just as much a sin as doing something I know to be wrong.

As a student of the Word, I have a better understanding of how I ought to live my life than most other laypeople. That knowledge holds me to a higher standard of living. Yet my life does not always reflect the truth I know.

I am guilty of having knowledge and not applying it. Too often, I know that I should be living out God's truth, and yet I don't.

This verse is a constant reminder that I need in my life, keeping my pride in check, and humbling me before God. My laziness and inaction are sinful, and I must daily confess my omissions to the Lord.

I'm so thankful for His grace!!

Which do you struggle with more? Sins of commission or omission? Where does God's grace shine brightest in your life?

#3in30 Twitter Party & 10 Steps to Tweet Grid

I am SO excited about the #3in30 Twitter party tonight! I can't wait to chat with all of you and celebrate our successes from this month, as well as brainstorm our goals for next month!!

I know a lot of you are probably new to Twitter parties, so I thought I'd share a quick "how to" post with you, to help you get the most out of our party tonight.

{#1} You'll need a Twitter account. It only takes a few seconds to set one up, and it's completely free. If you like step-by-by instructions, Twitip.com has a great How to Set Up a Twitter Account tutorial.

{#2} You'll probably want to use a "party" service to be able to keep up (or at least keep up better) with the party tweets. The party tends to move fairly quickly, so I highly recommend using a service such as TweetGrid.com.

How to use TweetGrid:
  1. I use a 1x3 grid - click on the 1x3 "yard sign" at TweetGrid.com.
  2. Sign-in with your Twitter account on TweetGrid.
  3. Type "#3in30" in the far left column and hit search.
  4. Type "3n30 OR apichea OR meghantucker" in the middle column and hit search.
  5. Type "@" followed by your user name in the far right column and hit search.
  6. Type "#3in30" in the hashtag box.
  7. This is where you'll type your tweets for the party - the number in parentheses on the right indicates how many characters you have available to use.
  8. The columns will refresh themselves regularly. The left column is where all the tweets from the party will be. The middle column is where the hostesses will be. The right column is where any tweets to you will be.
  9. If you hover over any tweet with your mouse, you'll have the option of "Replying" or "Retweeting" by clicking the appropriate arrow in this area.
  10. Got questions? We'll try our best to help you out!
{#3}  Be sure to follow the hostesses - @3n30, @meghantucker, and @apichea - and include the hashtag "#3in30" in your tweets.

{#4} Just come and have fun! We'll provide the conversation starters and our awesome sponsors have provided the door prizes - you just have to show up and tweet!

{#5} We'll see you TONIGHT at 9pm EST/10pm CST!! Invite a friend to join us - the party is open to all who have participated in the January 3 in 30 Challenge as well as those interested in learning more about the 3 in 30 Challenge!!

All door prizes have been provided by the individual sponsors, and will be shipped to winners (drawn at random) by the sponsors. Individuals must live in the contiguous US to win, due to shipping costs.

{James 3.2}

{James 3.2} For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.

Sometimes I think we forget that we are all sinners in need of a Savior. Especially in the online world.

Online, we are able to control how much we share, what we share, and thus, how we are perceived by the world. We tend to share only the good, or if we share the ugly, it's usually the cleaned up version.

But James reminds us that we all stumble. Not one of us is perfect. We all are daily in need of forgiveness and grace.

Let's each remember our own need of a Savior daily, and allow it to impact how we interact with and perceive others. Let our lives be seasoned with God's.

Fatal Judgment, by Irene Hannon

Fatal Judgment by Irene Hannon

Fatal Judgment (Guardians of Justice, Book 1){From the Publisher}
U.S. Marshal Jake Taylor has seen plenty of action during his years in law enforcement, But he'd rather go back to Iraq than face his next assignment: protection detail for federal judge Liz Michaels. His feelings toward the coldhearted workaholic haven't warmed in the five years since she drove her husband - and Jake's best friend - to despair... and possible suicide.

As the danger mounts and Jake gets to know Liz better, he's forced to revise his opinion of her. And when it becomes clear that an unknown enemy may want her dead, the stakes are raised. Because now both her life - and his heart - are in danger.

Full of suspense and romance, Fatal Judgment is a thrilling story that will keep you turning the pages late into the night.

{My Thoughts}
I cannot get enough of Irene Hannon's books! I just love her style, her story lines, and her characters. Fatal Judgment did not fail to live up to my expectations! I started it one evening after putting my kids to bed (around 8pm), and I finished it around 1am. It was that good!

A fast moving plot with twists and turns that keep you guessing - there is nothing better (in my opinion) that a suspense novel filled with "real life law" scenarios and the story of love and of soul redemption. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!

Thanks to Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, for providing a copy of this book for review.

{James 2.12}

{James 2.12} So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty.

I can be so very judgmental toward others, especially other believers in response to my perception of how they are acting. I am often so quick to judge sin that I think I see in the lives of others.

But this is not the will of God for me. God wants me to approach others with love, giving them the benefit of the doubt, covered with grace. He wants me to leave the judging to Him - He is the only One who us truly able to judge, after all.

I need to treat my brothers and sisters in Christ with love. I need to remember that Christianity is not about the Law but about the freedom we have in Christ.

Father, forgive me for my quickness to judge others. Help me to remember that my role is to love, leaving judgment to You. I do not and can not know what is in the heart of a person. Only You can see that. Help me to love all and show Your grace with liberality.

{James 1.12}

{James 1.12} Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Are you facing trials in your life? Persevere!

Trials are allowed by God to bring us into greater dependence on Him and to grow us closer to the image of His Son.

I know many of you are facing large trials in your lives - losing loved ones too early, a fire destroying your home, health struggles, financial burdens, relationships falling to pieces. Others may be facing smaller trials, but trials none-the-less.

Whatever God is allowing you to go through, remember that you are not alone. He is holding your hand and/or carrying you through every step of the way.

And you have friends who love you and want to lift you up as well. Share your trials with us - we want to pray with and for you!

    Do I Hafta? {A Guest Post}

    I am so excited to have my dear blogging friend, Jan, guest posting today. She has been such an encouragement to me as I've been blogging and going to school all while raising my young children. I pray that she would bless your heart today as well...

    ---

    Maybe you have fallen into the same trap I have: Important things fall by the wayside because something else seems more urgent. Both men and women (but especially moms with young kids, I think) seem prone to this. Even as an empty nester I find myself neglecting the truly important.

    How do you know you are over-committed and over-scheduled? If you find yourself rushing around, saying sentences that start with the words “I have to...” then this could be you! And it can be contagious, infecting even our children. Here’s a flashback from my world...
    “Hey, Kid -- it’s time to come help me with dinner,” I said.

    My son didn’t look up from the game he was playing. “Just a minute -- I have to play until I win a round,” he told me.

    My eyebrows went up. I have to, huh?

    Who says? Not me, and I’m the mom. That “have to” was strictly self-imposed.

    I could get mad, and maybe I did, but he probably got the “I-have-to’s” from me.

    To be fair, sometimes the “I-have to’s” sneak up on you because your schedule genuinely becomes unmanageable. Like the Spring semester of 2007, when I took three college courses.

    That course load had proved easy enough in the past. But the required “English Major Boot Camp” course turned out to be filled with overlapping and simultaneous assignments. The pressure was relentless. Things at home... well... didn’t get done.

    But it is all too easy to passively let “I have to” take the place of making conscious decisions about how to use our time. At those times, “I have to...” begins to sound like an excuse. I remember saying things like “I can’t play with you right now, Sweetie, I have to wash these dishes (or finish the laundry, or start dinner, etc...)” or more recently “I don’t have time to read my Bible this morning, Lord; I have to meet this deadline first.”

    Oh, really? Who says?

    A few years ago, a crowd of “conflicting duties” frustrated me. But when I thought about it, I realized that there are no conflicting duties. God can count; He would never assign more than 24 hours’ worth of stuff to do in one day -- including sleep! So, if I’m trying to squeeze in 28 hours’ worth of activity a day, that indicates four hours of unnecessary stuff that I have imposed on myself. When the schedule gets really pinched, I need to ask myself, do I really have to do this? Maybe it’s a legitimate emergency. But it’s also possible that some of my duties are obsolete, or I’m being too much of a perfectionist about them, or someone else needs and wants a chance to serve in my place. It’s time to step back, sift through those things that keep me too busy, and ask the Lord whether I should let go of some of them.

    One helpful tool I learned about from my college adviser is the “week-at-a-glance” time budgeting chart. She recommended using it to figure out whether you can realistically manage your proposed course load. It is just a table that has seven columns and enough rows to show half-hour blocks of time, from your usual rising time to your latest likely bedtime. My adviser handed me one of these and told me to block in my scheduled obligations first (like classes and work), then time for meals, study and travel, and then optional activities like my social life.

    (Although at my age, my social life consisted mainly of family time and was NOT optional!) Using this to assess how you are already spending each day is also a worthwhile exercise.

    I don’t know about you, but I could use a “filter” for items before they go on my calendar (or before I realize I have just spent an hour on some unplanned and time-wasting diversion!) Here are some questions I try to remember to ask myself...
    1. Does this activity benefit me, either physically, mentally, spiritually or emotionally?

    2. Does it benefit others, especially those for whom I am responsible?

    3. Does it support my God-given purpose and either a long- or short-term goal?

    4. Does it balance with other things I am doing, or does it tend to make my schedule lop-sided (too heavy in one area of life while neglecting another)?

    Bear in mind: I do NOT advocate packing your schedule with drop-dead-serious endeavors.

    Quite the opposite! If you don’t have time to laugh, pray, rest, eat, exercise and feed your soul with the beauty of art or of God’s creation, then let go of some of the serious stuff. Seriously. It’s okay -- and healthy -- to say “Enough.”

    I hope this perspective from an “older mom” will encourage some of my younger sisters. I welcome any comments and questions you may have.

    Thanks for reading!

    {Deuteronomy 6.6-7}

    {Deuteronomy 6.6-7} "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children."

    Are you like me? Addicted to lists and sticky notes?

    I constantly find myself needing reminders - I can't remember what I sat down to do five minutes after I sit down to do it!

    God instructed the Israelites to remind their children about His love and wisdom often. They were to "impress" His Word on the hearts of their children.

    Our responsibility as parents has not changed. We are still given the responsibility of impressing God's wisdom and love on our children's hearts - to remind them daily of His will for their lives.

    What are some ways you impress God's Word on your children's hearts?

    As a writer, it is important that I continue to grow, learn, and allow new knowledge to change me.
    If I want to have an influence on my readers, I must be constantly learning

    Only when I am overflowing with applied knowledge in my own life can I teach {and write} with the excitement and passion required to bring my readers into the learning process with me.
    If I desire {and I do!!} to minister to you by speaking truth and encouragement into your life, I must first ask God to speak truth and encouragement into my life
    I cannot share with you what I do not possess myself.

    {1 Corinthians 13.8}

    {1 Corinthians 13.8} "Love never fails."

    There is so much I could say on this verse... I even started writing a Bible study on it at one point a few years ago.

    What a pertinent verse to follow up our discussion from this morning regarding yesterday's verse about divorce.

    Love never fails.

    Our human ability to love will always fail at some point. But God's love will never fail. And as believers, we are called to choose each day to love those whom God has entrusted to us.

    Love isn't a fuzzy feeling in our hearts.

    Love is a choice we make.

    Love is a verb.
