Idols? In MY Life?!?
Though some in our culture still practice idol worship, it is not common. If you walked into my home, you would not expect to see any shrines or carved idols as a part of my decor.
And yet, if we fully examine our lives, we may find that we too are guilty of worshipping idols.
Idol: that on which the affections are strongly (often excessively) set; an object of passionate devotion; a person or thing greatly loved or adored. {Source}

John 3.16 says that "whoever believes in [Christ] shall not perish but have eternal life."
"Belief is trusting your eternal destiny to the work of Christ and realizing that you have no other back-up (good works, sacrifices, sincerity) should that redemptive work fail." {SourceAnything I trust in (whether acknowledged or simply realized through action) apart from the finished work of Christ on the cross is an idol. Only when I allow the Holy Spirit to reveal these idols to me and rid my life of them am I fully trusting in Christ.}
What idols do you have in your life?
Are you willing to trust Christ fully, to rid your life of them and trust Him alone?

Yes, those pesky idols....my children and I sit and list the idols we have every day. Not to condemn ourselves, but to acknowledge them...and pray about them...because we know we can not change us...only God can really change us in our hearts. So...yes, computer, tv, cell phone, food, books, friends, bikes, skate boards, dolls......those are usually our top ones...daily.....and each day, we feel God pulling us closer to him, as we talk with him about it.....
Wow! I love this idea - what an incredible way to make this concept from the Word so tangible and applicable for you children!
The internet can quickly become an idol in my life if I don't stay accountable and stick to my purpose here..ministering to others.

Thanks for responding, Melissa! I can definitely become a slave to the
internet (especially social media) if I lose focus, too. I think it's
struggle many of us has, and we ought to work to keep one another
accountable.
