{James 4.17}

{James 4.17} "Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin."

Ah, my least favorite verse in the Bible.

I don't know about you, but when I do something I shouldn't, it's a whole lot easier to admit I messed up than when I don't do something I should. For me, the sins of commission are easier to acknowledge than the sins of omission.

This verse, though, reminds me that neglecting to do what I know to be right is just as much a sin as doing something I know to be wrong.

As a student of the Word, I have a better understanding of how I ought to live my life than most other laypeople. That knowledge holds me to a higher standard of living. Yet my life does not always reflect the truth I know.

I am guilty of having knowledge and not applying it. Too often, I know that I should be living out God's truth, and yet I don't.

This verse is a constant reminder that I need in my life, keeping my pride in check, and humbling me before God. My laziness and inaction are sinful, and I must daily confess my omissions to the Lord.

I'm so thankful for His grace!!

Which do you struggle with more? Sins of commission or omission? Where does God's grace shine brightest in your life?
