Letting go of my anxieties...
I haven't flown in over 5 years, and I've never had to figure out the airport on my own. I'm a little bit (read LOT) nervous about all the baggage checking, boarding pass printing, gate finding, etc I'll be doing on Thursday.
I'm not a fashionista. My "everyday" wear is a sweatshirt over a tank top and a pair of jeans (sometimes they're even clean). I don't even really own more than a couple of accessories, most of which are packed away in a box somewhere that I can't find because I never wear them. And my one pair of "good jeans" don't really fit and I don't like the cut. And let's not get started on shoes.
I fear rejection. I can be outgoing, but it's just a front. I often find myself "starting" a group, then quickly find myself somewhere on the outside of the group. I'm scared it will happen again this week.
I'm sure there are plenty more anxious thoughts I could list and mull over, working myself up over "nothing", but instead, I'm choosing to cling to Philippians 4.6-7:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
I'll see you all AFTER Relevant!!

With that Scripture in hand you will have a GREAT time. I really look forward to your post-conference posts!
you should be able to print your boarding pass at home before you leave, that will save you a little bit of time.. in most cases you can check in online within 24 hours of your flight... maybe that would help ease some tension.. you'll be great!! and i totally get the jeans thing, that's all i wear, when i have to get dressed up for something, i totally stress out. God will bless you in your obedience to Him! have fun!
You can do it! Oh - I wish I was able to go to Relevant, but I have a nursling right now. I will say that we don't fly much either. Last year, my in-laws surprised us with tickets to visit them with Buggy. I was 5 months pregnant. Buggy was 16 months old and still a lap baby. We nearly missed our flight due to a big snow storm as we left. I was PETRIFIED of doing the whole "traveling with kids" thing - car seat, stroller, luggage, baby food....
It was easier than I expected. Just plan appropriately. Check all of your shampoo stuff in your luggage. Take a few extra plastic zip lock bags with you just in case they find something you hadn't thought of. (In Omaha, they told me I had to go back and buy a ziplock bag for a lip gloss tube I had forgotten about - I told them to throw it away since i was running late). Another way to ease your nerves is to take a folder with all of your information with you - maps, check-in info, checklist - everything. Having it all organized can really help!
Hopefully I'll see you at Relevant next year! Have fun! Oh - I have heard many women going to Relevant talk about not having anything but jeans to wear!
Wishing you a fabulous trip and a week of growth and fulfillment! I was never comfortable traveling alone until my daughter lived in England. Then I had to learn to fly internationally by myself often. I still prefer to travel with my husband, but I can actually enjoy an international flight alone now as well.
I haven't flown since 9/11, not because I'm afraid to fly but because I don't want to deal with all the hassle of the new regs. I even drove all the way to Virginia (from Florida) in May to my aunt's birthday - it was two days driving up and two days driving back and I was only there one day! That might seem extreme (and it was tiring) but I use the car time as my "me" time. I crank up my tunes and sing. I stop when I want to stop and eat what I want to eat.
So how did the whole flight experience go? I'm curious.
