Moving Checklist
We just found out on Friday that our closing date has been moved up (assuming the builders are finished to the point of occupancy) to the 27th of this month. That means we're less than TWO WEEKS away from closing and just two-and-a-half weeks away from the big moving day! I haven't even started packing yet - it's going to be a zoo around here!
I thought I'd share a few things I still need to do before we move:
- Buy/make window treatments.
- Buy shower curtain rods and a shower curtain.
- Pack all of our belongings.
- Decide whether or not to move our garden with us - tomatoes and peppers are still going strong.
- Determine what furniture is going in which rooms.
- Get the rest of the kids' bedroom furniture from my parents' house in Michigan.
- Meet with our loan officer for "loan counseling" before we can close.
- Switch the utilities to our name.
- Call the cable company to be sure we have internet/TV/phone ready to go when we get to the new house (although, I could just let my husband do that, since that's what he does for a living).
- What am I forgetting??

Oohh...the 27th is a good day. It's my birthday. Good luck! I know how difficult and stressful it can be but just keep remembering how awesome the end result will be.
don't worry about the garden. your tomatoes will be done soon anyway. it's not worth the hassle! taking the root systems out would not be fun.
what about things like forwarding mail, changing addresses for bills, getting new checks, just a few more things for you. ;)
my suggestion in the kitchen dept is to pack up everything but exactly what you need. 4 plates, 4 bowls etc. you'll wash a lot more, but you can pack up a lot more that way. itg worked for us. i just had to stay on top of dishes in the kitchen.

And on top of school, too.... bless your heart! If you're like us, before packing you might blitz through your current house and set aside a big pile of things to toss or donate (or garage-sale, but that may be more trouble than it's worth.) Then you will be packing only things you will actually want at the new place.
Make sure you sign up for the Home Depot Movers Club! They have tons of great suggestions to make your move go more smoothly. They also send you coupons to Home Depot!

Oh, it would be so sad to leave the garden! When we moved in June, we left behind our tomato plants, which were huge, but not bearing. Now our tenants say they have tomatoes! *cool*
It's my son's birthday, too! :) I'm getting excited... finally started packing on Monday. Hopefully I'll be done packing before we move! :) LOL
Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I'm packing up everything I don't need and simplifying my meal plans for the next few weeks to be able to pack up as much of the kitchen as possible. I think I'll just leave the garden in place and run back here once a week or so as long as it's still producing... nobody will mind.
Any of the bigger stuff we'll just set out at the curb for "free" to the first person to haul it (already got rid of one couch this way). We'll probably end up with a few boxes for Goodwill too. I'm just trying to do it "quickly" and semi-organized. I've already started labeling boxes with room destinations and a brief description of what's inside so I know if it needs to be unpacked right away or not.
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the closest HD is probably Fort Wayne. We're Menards-a-holics here! :)
Thankfully, our landlords won't mind us coming back occasionally to harvest, so I'm thinking I'll just leave it here (we'll only be 10 minutes across town). We're also harvesting a friend's garden that had to move and leave it behind, so we have lots of tomatoes!
We love Menards too! Our little town has a Home Depot, but not a Menards, so we have to head to Fort Wayne for Menards. Fortunately for us, Fort Wayne is only a 30 minute drive! :-)
We're only 30 mins from Ft Wayne, too, but we rarely ever go there. We're
just "stick to home" people. :)
Great idea to make a post out of your moving list! Lists are so helpful, and it's great to see types of lists others use themselves. Moving is hectic but exciting. I hope it is successful for you!
