Reading Aloud

Do you like to read aloud?  

I don't. Unless it's in Sunday school or something where I can 'sound superior' with my Bible reading skills.  (Yup - I'm really that vain.  Ugg.)

I really don't enjoy reading aloud to my kids.  I don't mind reading to them, it's just the reading aloud part that bugs me.

I'm a speed reader by nature.  Reading aloud slows me down - I actually have to semi-process every word.  (Normally I read by scanning, then if I don't completely comprehend what I scanned, I'll read with more detail.)  And since I'm a "hurry up and get to the good part" type reader, reading aloud bugs me.

Sunday, while reading aloud in Sunday school (see, I told you!), I observed something odd.  I found myself reading a phrase ahead of what I was actually vocalizing.  My eyes and brain were processing the next phrase (in order to properly emphasis and phrase it), while my mouth was vocalizing the previous phrase in 'perfection'.  It was really an odd experience - almost like an out-of-body view of what was happening in my head.
