"Here Burns My Candle" by Liz Curtis Higgs

Here Burns My Candle had me hooked within the first chapter.  I picked it up late at night and thought "oh no, I'm going to have to use my brain on this book" (due to the time period and Scottish language), but I quickly found myself immersed in the story.

I've not read any books by Liz Curtis Higgs before, but after reading Here Burns My Candle, I will definitely be watching for other books she's written.  She did such a great job of merging current events of the time period (Prince Charlie's march on Edinburgh) with the the details of the fiction that you truly believe you were watching history happen.
