Here Burns My Candle
had me hooked within the first chapter. I picked it up late at night and thought "oh no, I'm going to have to use my brain on this book" (due to the time period and Scottish language), but I quickly found myself immersed in the story.
I've not read any books by Liz Curtis Higgs before, but after reading
Here Burns My Candle
, I will definitely be watching for other books she's written. She did such a great job of merging current events of the time period (
Prince Charlie's march on Edinburgh
) with the the details of the fiction that you truly believe you were watching history happen.
Thanks to WaterBrook/Multnomah Publishers for providing me with a copy of this book.
