"Silent Savior", by A.J. Gregory
A.J. Gregory has written a book based on her own personal experiences of times in her life when God has been "silent".
(From the back of the book:) There are times in our lives when it's not just hard to hear God - it's impossible. We've all been there. Knowing on some deeper level that God is present no matter how things look, but still feeling the trickle of doubt. And wondering why the God whose faithfulness is never supposed to fail seems to be turning a giant deaf ear toward us. It's not always like this, but silent seasons are common in the life of any believer... In Silent Savior, A.J. Gregory navigates that labyrinth of sorrow, pain, angst, and doubt on the way to a soul-deep recognition of God's infinite faithfulness and perpetual, if sometimes silent, presence. And she encourages you to keep believing he's there even when that silence seems deafening.
Gregory uses Scripture and experience (both her own and that of others) to point readers to the truth that God is always there, even when we can't hear Him. One of the points that sticks out the most from this book is her take on the story of Job. Even though Job has all but lost hope that God will ever answer him, he never stops talking to God. He might be screaming and yelling and completely off-base, but he was still trusting that God was there, even when God wasn't talking back. We need to have faith like Job, faith that keeps us coming back to God, even when we can't hear Him.
