It's been a day...

This morning started out normal, almost better than normal even... and then we had some "fun". J brought David in around 6:30am to eat (normally, he'd have been screaming for over an hour and I'd get up after awhile to feed him... this morning I didn't even hear him cry). I fed him and changed his diaper - poor little guy is sick (thanks to his sister, I'm sure), and J took him back to bed before he left for work.

I fell back asleep until 8ish, when I started debating whether to try to get a shower in before the kids woke up (they usually wake up between 7:30 and 8:30). I decided to wait til after I got Jenny some breakfast before attempting to shower, so I snoozed til she got up around 8:45 (yeah, I could have showered, oh well). I got her breakfast and got in the shower. Got dressed, cleaned her up and let her watch a few minutes of Caillou while I had my quiet time.

Since our deck is in demolition stage right now, it doesn't have any "walls", so it has a very nice view of our yard (about 4 acres). It was calling my name. I grabbed a mug of coffee, my devo book, journal, and Bible and went out on it. (I had left the sliding door open so I could hear if the kids needed/wanted me for anything.) It was "Barakel-esqe". I loved it.

I came back inside about 20 minutes later, and went in the living room to check on Jenny. No Jenny. I saw her door open, so I peeked inside. No Jenny. As I looked down the hallway, the door to the entryway was opened (we keep it locked). I ran to the door, and saw that the door to the outside was also opened (we keep it locked as well). I quickly ran outside (books still in hand and barefoot) and started calling for my two year old. She was nowhere in sight. I ran around to the back of the house, praying that she had at least remember her yard boundaries and had gone in the backyard to play. She was standing next to the woodpile in her t-shirt, panties, and church shoes. I almost cried. I quickly herded her back inside and tried to explain to her that she was NOT allowed to go outside without Mommy or Daddy. I couldn't even punish her, I was so upset. I asked her why she went outside: "I wanted to see the birdies!"

I got her dressed and David up and dressed as well, and we headed to town to run some errands. She patiently waited at the door for me this time!

I scored some AWESOME deals... WAGS, CVS, and Marsh (local grocery). The retail value of the stuff I got was: $184.38. I paid: $37.78 OOP, used $10 ECBs, have $4.50 RR and $11 ECB left. Net of the trip: $32.28... a savings of 82.5%!! My WAGS (total: $11.67, saved 82.4%) and CVS (total: $15.51, saved 73.3%) purchases are pictured below. My Marsh purchases included: four pounds of fresh strawberries, four pounds of sausage, and 2.61 pounds of bananas (total $10.66, saved 59% w/o using any coupons!).

We also made a stop at the library while we were out. It was really quiet in the children's section - unlike the past when we've always gone after Story Time, along with all 15-20 other families that were at Story Time. Jenny and David were able to sit and play with some of the toys they have available for awhile, and Jenny and I were both able to pick out a few books to read this week.

When we got home from all of our running around, I had brought all the goodies in and put them on the counter to put away. Jenny decided she was going to "help" me - I was still in the other room taking off my shoes and didn't know she was trying to "help". I heard a THUD. I ran in the kitchen to find one of the gallons of milk we'd just bought (free thanks to WIC) emptying all over my floor. I managed to pick it up in such a way as to be able to save about 1/3 of it, but my floor was now COVERED in milk. I sent Jenny to her room so she'd be out of the way while I figured out how to clean it up. I ended up grabbing all the dirty towels that needed to be washed soon anyway, and ended up doing an unplanned load of laundry.

I was able to get both kids fed and down for naps without too much problems. And now I'm trying to recover from today, hoping that the "worst" is behind me. I'm so glad my weekend starts tonight!

Food for Thought: What's your week been like? Any good deals this week? Any "funny" kid stories to share? I'd love to know that I'm not the only one having a "week"! Leave me your thoughts!

so what are you going to do with 10 lifetime supplies of toothpaste and shampoo? i see you always get deals on them, but isnt sometime better to not pay 2 cents for something that you 1000 of and save the 2 cents?

I don't pay for anything we won't use. Most of the stuff we actually "make money" on by using coupons and such (i.e. $1 off coupon on something that is free is a $1 minus tax extra money for the rest of my shopping) - the majority of my spending is on stuff that we need (i.e. allergy meds, diapers, etc)... the extra stuff will be donated to a local shelter or something.
